Looking for great things to do in Hertfordshire this weekend? Stanborough Park in Welwyn Garden City is a lovely park to visit for a fun family day out. With two large lakes on its’ 126-acre site, there’s something for everyone to do at this park in Hertfordshire.

The large wooded areas and lakeside trails are perfect for a family walk or bike ride. There’s loads of parkland to explore, and it’s a beautiful location for a family picnic. The Stanborough Reedmarsh is a quieter area of the park, where you’ll be able to find beautiful plant life and even some rare birds if you’re lucky.

The water sports at Stanborough Park are the main attraction. Also known as Stanborough Lakes, the park is home to two large lakes, both of which often host activities that visitors can get involved with.

The northern lake is also known as the boating lake. This lake is a great place for kids to splash about in, as the water is only three feet deep. On this lake, you can also rent pedalos and small rowing boats to have fun on the water.

There are several small islands in the lake, and it is a fun place for families to explore. You can also discover the small stream that runs into the lake, which is brilliant for paddling and catching small fish in nets.

The southern lake is deeper than the northern counterpart and hosts plenty of water-sports activities that visitors can join in with. Zorbing - running on the lake in a giant bubble - is one of the most popular. There’s also a sailing school and kayaking available, which are both entertaining ways for kids to spend an afternoon.

The lakes aren’t the only place where you can have fun at Stanborough Park. The ‘Splashlands’ area of the park is an incredible water play area, with over 60 water jets, fountains, and play equipment for kids to play with. It’s the perfect way to cool down in summer and is open from Good Friday to the last Sunday in September each year.

If you’d rather stay dry during your visit to Stanborough, there’s still plenty of great activities to join in with. The park is home to a children’s play area, complete with climbing frames, swings, and slides. What’s more, there’s also a ‘Go Ape’ adventure centre, where kids (and adults!) can swing from the treetops, with an assault course and zip wires included. In the summer, you’ll also find a bouncy castle in the park, which is very popular with the park’s younger visitors.

Stanborough Park isn’t the only amazing place that you can visit in Hertfordshire, just north of London. Hertfordshire walks are renowned for their connection to the countryside and peaceful setting. And after a beautiful walk, what better way to relax than enjoying a delicious afternoon tea at one of the many lovely cafés in Hertfordshire?

Hertfordshire is also an extremely historic county. Whether it's the incredible Roman ruins that can be found in Verulamium Park in St. Albans, or Knebworth House, a beautiful 500-year-old manor house just outside Stevenage, there’s so much amazing history to discover in this part of the country.
