  • Discover the beauty and sophistication of poetry in Hampstead at the home of John Keats, the famous Romantic poet.
  • John Keats' House is a stunning Regency villa and was where Romantic poet John Keats found love, inspiration, and friendship, where loads of family friendly events and workshops take place.
  • Be sure to check out the area surrounding Keats House in Hampstead as there’s loads to do, like taking a stroll in Hampstead Heath park, which covers over 300 hectares.

Open to the public since 1925, this house museum in London is a Grade I-listed building set a stone's throw from Hampstead Heath. It comes alive with special events hosted throughout the year. These events range from poetry performances to family fun days offering learning, history and exciting stories for all to enjoy. Fancy writing your own poem? You can learn how to, there's always something to do in this beautiful historic house whenever you visit. You could be listening to Keats' globally famous poetry, or watch a film about his life and learn all the juicy details of his time in London.

Be sure to check out the Keats House Collection, which is home to a variety of books, letters, manuscripts, prints, artefacts and paintings that all relate to John Keats and his interesting life. You can learn about his circle of acquaintances, and the English Romantic movement. This is great for any budding literature fanatic, with the Keats House Library to trail through, one of the few poetry museums in London. Consultation appointments are currently available for The Keats House Collection, and this includes the Keats Memorial Library, which is a great resource for kids and adults alike.

Keats House interior has been carefully restored, having reopened for the first time in 2009, and then again in 2014 after it received an Arts Council England grant. The fantastic refurbishments authentically reflect how the property would have been decorated when Keats himself was living there, offering a close replica of Regency style. In these rooms, you can expect events and talks, and in the poetry reading room there's even an exhibition on Fanny Brawne, Keats's sweetheart, who lived just next door.

Be sure to check out the video about Keats' life, which is on the basement level. The poet is said to have written 'Ode to a Nightingale' in the beautiful garden, which just so happens to be a great place to take family pictures too, so make sure to take the time to explore if it's a sunny day. At the end of your visit, head to the gift shop on the ground floor, where you can shop for some Keats and Romantics-inspired goods.

Don’t miss out on the group tours, which are only bookable at times when the house is otherwise closed to the wider public. Expect tons of special events, from talks and poetry readings to children’s storytelling sessions and creative workshops.

There are loads of other great things to do near Keats House, too. Just a stone's throw away is Burgh House and Hampstead Museum, and of course, Hampstead Heath, which is a great escape from busy city life.
