Winner of Best Picture and Best Director at 2020's Golden Globes Awards, 1917 (rated 15) is one war epic that you need to see! Teenagers and adults alike will be enthralled by the story of two British soldiers who must cross no man's land to deliver a vital message to abort a planned attack on German lines. Can the soldiers deliver the message on time to stop 1,600 men from walking straight into a deadly trap?
The story for the film comes directly from director Mendes’ own family history - he wrote the screenplay based on the stories his grandfather told him about being a runner in the British Army. One of the biggest reasons to watch this war epic is its mesmerising one-shot cinematography. The camera follows the young soldiers in one long tracking shot, making it feel very real and as if you're right in the action. It's bound to inspire and educate your older kids about the realities of World War I. Not your typical drive-in movie but well worth a watch.
