  • Visit the stunning Blenheim Palace, the Cotswolds and the Downton Abbey village on a luxury coach from London.
  • Escape to the country and explore the village of Bampton, where the TV series Downton Abbey was filmed.
  • Experience the magnificence of Blenheim Palace, the birthplace of Winston Churchill in 1874.

Enjoy a comfortable trip by coach from London to Oxfordshire with your family on this brilliant day trip with Evan and Evans Tours. Walk in the footsteps of Winston Churchill himself and discover one of the largest stately homes in the UK and UNESCO World Heritage Site, Blenheim Palace.

Home to the 12th Duke and Duchess of Marlborough, the palace in Woodstock is one of the finest examples of 18th-century Baroque architecture. Designed by playwright Sir John Vanbrugh, the palace was built between 1705 and 1722 as a gift for John Churchill, the first Duke of Marlborough from Queen Anne for his victory at the Battle of Blenheim in 1704. Admire the exquisite furniture, wonderful portraits and tapestries in the gilded State Rooms whilst discovering the 300-year-old history of the palace. Take a stroll in the extraordinary gardens that surround it; can you find the 1046-year-old King Oak in the grounds? As well as being an important part of history, there’s also a jam-packed year-round calendar of Blenheim Palace events and experiences – including the Christmas market and the flower show.

Bourton-on-the-Water in the Cotswolds, Oxfordshire.

Afterwards, visit the charming Cotswolds village of Bibury on the banks of the River Colne. The quaint setting has been the backdrop for many well-loved films including Bridget Jones’s Diary and Stardust. Explore the cottages of Arlington Row, which are believed to have been built in 1380.

Take in the beauty of the next village of Bourton-on-the-Water, known as the Venice of the Cotswolds. Situated on the River Windrush, it’s known for its low bridges and quaint limestone buildings. There is even a model village to explore, which the kids will really enjoy.

Next stop is the charming village of Bampton. Downton Abbey fans may recognise some of the locations from the series, including the church, Downton Cottage hospital, Isobel Crawley’s home and the two fictional pubs, The Grantham Arms and The Dog & Duck.

If you are looking for more things to do in the Cotswolds or areas to visit, there are tons more family-friendly locations to check out. Or if you are looking to explore outside spaces in Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire, here are some great ideas.
